{"id":5162,"date":"2020-07-11T16:01:17","date_gmt":"2020-07-11T16:01:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/putridparrot.com\/blog\/?p=5162"},"modified":"2020-07-11T16:01:17","modified_gmt":"2020-07-11T16:01:17","slug":"adding-images-to-your-github-readme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/putridparrot.com\/blog\/adding-images-to-your-github-readme\/","title":{"rendered":"Adding images to your github README&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Obviously there are several ways to add images to your GitHub README.md or other mark down files in GitHub. <\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Check them into the repository that includes the README.md<\/li>\n<li>Use a CDN or other file storage outside of GitHub<\/li>\n<li>Attach the image to an issue within your repository<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>If you are going to use the first option, then there&#8217;s an obvious downside, in that the image(s) are now part of your repo. and will add to the overall download, clone, fork etc. <\/p>\n<p>Obviously the second option is great if you have CDN access of other filer space.<\/p>\n<p>The third option is presented on <a href=\"http:\/\/solutionoptimist.com\/2013\/12\/28\/awesome-github-tricks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">GitHub Tricks: Upload Images &#038; Live Demos<\/a> and simply requires<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Create an issue in your repo<\/li>\n<li>Drag and drop the image from File Explorer (or the likes) into the comment section of the issue<\/li>\n<li>When the link is updated in the comment, i.e. you see the image, copy the link using your browser (i.e. right mouse click, copy link)<\/li>\n<li>Now use this link in your markdown<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>To use the link in GitHub markdown just use<\/p>\n<pre class=\"brush: xml; title: ; notranslate\" title=\"\">\r\n!&#x5B;You Text](Image Url)\r\n<\/pre>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Obviously there are several ways to add images to your GitHub README.md or other mark down files in GitHub.
